Question: Discussion you're feeling and opinion about the article Rescuing Jews?
I feel happy that so many people tried to rescue the Jews. I feel sad for the people who got caught for rescuing Jew. In the article it states that, “Nazis punished not only the hider, but also family and perhaps everyone on their blocks.” The people who helped hid them in attics, cellars, haystacks, and sheds. Oskar Schindler was a famous man who rescued the Jews. Oskar was Polish. He was a member of the Nazi Party. In the article Rescuing Jews it states that Oskar went to Krakow to open a factory using Polish Jews as his secret investors and slave laborers as his employees. Oskar saved over 1,000 people. I am happy that some people were upstanders not bystanders. This shows that people care and people are brave.
Do you guys think Oskar was scared or happy while saving Jews ?
I think he was happy. You should try to watch the movie Schindler's List when you're a little older. When you see this movie, it becomes clear he was happy to save them. One thing I wanted to say was that I don't think Schindler was Polish. I think, but I'm not totally positive, that he was from a part of what is today the Czech Republic that had been historically part of Germany. Germany's borders a long time ago were bigger than they were in World War II. When World War II happened, there were Germans who were technically living in other countries, kind of like there are Canadians and Mexicans who live here. Can you please respond with some names of other people you read about in the Rescuing Jews article? Those people were so brave.
