Prisoners of war

“Attention! All prisoners will carry our dead and wounded to the waiting red cross trucks.” Nazi officer, Maus, (pg. 50)

This quote shows how the Nazis treated their prisoners when they captured them. Also on the page you see that the Nazis would make their prisoners clean up and take care of their men. It also shows how the Nazis could be mean because on the same page a Nazi was going to shoot Vladek because he was walking towards the river. It can also connect to if you have older siblings because your older sibling could boss you around and make you clean up after them and they could boss you around. If you were someone in charge of someone would you boss someone around?

This quote reminds me of the theme of fear. Because if the Nazi's prisoners wouldn’t listen to the Nazis then they would've gotten killed because when Vladek went to go get the man he killed the Nazi looked like he was about to shoot Vladek because he was walking towards the river. This reminds me of a older sibling or parents because if someone older than me asks me to do something then I would do it because I don’t want to get in trouble.
If someone older than you asked you to do something would you do it?

  1. If I was asked or told to do something by an older person, I would or wouldn't do it depending upon if it was a bad thing to do. If the person is being bossy and tells me to do something that he or she should be doing then I would say no if I wasn't being placed in danger, or I would do it and make sure that I tell someone about it later.

  2. Angel,

I agree with Terry. I hope I would do it because I respect them, or to help, but not if I thought it was wrong or from fear. A lot of times it's so easy to 'go along' when the best thing to do would be to stand up. Sometimes it just doesn't seem worth the risk or trouble. I suspect that giving in to this feeling makes it easier to go along next time and the next time, and that's very dangerous.

  3. Depending on the place, time and the person who is telling me to do something. If I was a prisoner and a Nazi told me to do something then obviously i'm going to do it because if I don't they probably won't just shoot me to death. What they would probably do is torture me until I die or maybe just torture me so I would do what they say next time. If it were my parents ordering me to do something then I will do it because they are older than me and they are my parents but if I wouldn't do what they told me they won't torture me or kill me they would probably just scream at me or ground me.
